He was aware that he was dying as he finished this book, and it bears the marks of an attempt to cram a lifetime of study and thought into one work.… This book (Gould's last) is a behemoth. With over 1400 pages, it becomes a physically taxing task to read it. This task is not lessened by the verbiage (and verbosity) that exemplify Gould's style. |
